Two terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an ongoing operation in the upper reaches of Basantgarh in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Wednesday, according to officials.

Bodies of the two Pakistan-based terrorists, alongside an M-4 carbine, an AK assault rifle, a pistol, and a large quantity of ammunition and eatables, were recovered from the scene. This marks the first successful operation against terrorists in the dense forest, which has seen over half-a-dozen encounters in the last six months, resulting in the deaths of a village defence guard and a CRPF inspector.

Officials stated that one more terrorist is believed to be trapped in the Khandara top area, with efforts ongoing to neutralize him. Additional reinforcements were dispatched and the operation extended to the Kudwah and Raichak areas. The operation, jointly conducted by the Army and police, initiated early in the day with the first contact being made at 12.50 PM, leading to a fierce gunfight.

"Two terrorists neutralized in the ongoing operation at Khandara by troops of Rising Star Corps. Operations in progress," the Army confirmed in a post on X.
