Court Mandates CISCE To Allow Over 50kg Boys In U-14 Boxing

The Madras High Court has instructed the CISCE to permit boys under 14 years, weighing above 50 kg, to compete in the CISCE National Boxing Championship. This directive followed a petition from 13-year-old Alberich Abhay, who was previously barred from participation due to his weight, despite girls in a similar situation being allowed.

The Madras High Court has ruled that boys under 14 years who weigh more than 50 kg must be allowed to participate in the CISCE National Boxing Championship.

This decision came after 13-year-old Alberich Abhay, a Class 8 student, filed a petition revealing the weight limitation was discriminatory. The event is scheduled for September 13, 2024, in Jharkhand.

Justice M Dhandapani's directive highlighted that permitting girls but not boys of the same age and weight category violated Article 14 of the Constitution of India. Consequently, a March 26, 2024, CISCE circular excluding these boys was rescinded.
