Russian Forces Launch Major Counter-Offensive in Kursk

Russian forces have initiated a major counter-offensive against Ukrainian troops who breached western Russia last month, reclaiming some lost territory, according to pro-Moscow war bloggers.

On August 6, Ukraine conducted the largest foreign assault on Russia since World War Two, invading the Kursk region with thousands of troops, drones, and heavy weaponry, including Western-made arms. Pro-Russian bloggers like Yuri Podolyaka and the Two Majors reported that Russian forces have now launched a counter-attack in Kursk.

"In the Kursk region, the Russian Army launched counter-offensive actions on the western flank of the enemy's wedge, reducing the Ukrainian zone of control near the state border," the Two Majors blog stated. Podolyaka added that Russian forces had seized several villages west of the area Ukraine had occupied, pushing Ukrainian troops to the east of the Malaya Loknya River south of Snagost.

Reuters was unable to independently verify these battlefield reports due to reporting restrictions imposed by both sides. The Russian defense ministry has provided little information, and there has been no immediate comment from Ukrainian officials.
