The Nepali government, under the leadership of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, has imposed a ban on the use of the share trading system (TMS) in government offices during official working hours. This directive was announced on Tuesday.
Oli emphasized that civil servants should concentrate on their governmental duties while at work. This decision follows numerous complaints received by the prime minister's office, alleging that many civil servants were actively participating in share trading during office hours, thus hampering their efficiency and the quality of public service.
On his Facebook page, Prime Minister Oli stated, 'It is invalid to engage in private business in the stock market while in a government office.' He further explained the adverse effects this practice had on government functions and service delivery. To address these issues, the government has prohibited the operation of TMS in all government establishments nationwide, including ministries, commissions, secretariats, and local offices. Additionally, a technical team will be formed to monitor adherence to the new rule.
