The death toll from a tragic migrant boat accident off the coast of Senegal has risen to 26 after the discovery of an additional 17 bodies on Tuesday, the Senegalese navy confirmed in a post on X.
The pirogue, a narrow wooden fishing vessel, was transporting over 100 migrants from the town of Mbour. It capsized merely 4 km into its journey, according to state broadcaster Radio Television Senegalaise (RTS).
A spokesperson for the West African nation's armed forces informed Reuters that the navy has deployed a plane and two boats to search for both the deceased and potential survivors.
