In a decisive move, Delhi Food and Supplies Minister Imran Hussain has tasked relevant officials with controlling the prices of onion and other critical commodities, according to a statement released on Monday.

During a detailed meeting, Minister Hussain stressed to the food and civil supplies department the urgency of being vigilant about potential price hikes in these essential goods, the statement indicated.

The minister mandated that the department's market intelligence unit deploy teams to markets to verify retail prices. Hussain's directive calls for these teams to scrutinize the discrepancies between wholesale and retail prices. Officers at the meeting commented that the prices of onions have been stable and are expected to remain so. Further, Hussain ordered intricate inspections of key wholesale markets like Azadpur Mandi, Okhla Mandi, Ghazipur Mandi, and Keshopur Mandi, as well as various retail markets across Delhi. The department is to submit regular inspection reports, the statement added.
