KZN Premier Recommits to Economic Stability and Rule of Law During Operation Siyahlola

Leading the operation, Premier Ntuli focused on the revitalization of factories in KwaSithebe that were damaged during the civil unrest of July 2021.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has reinforced the provincial government's commitment to restoring economic stability, creating jobs, and upholding the rule of law in the province. This pledge was made during Operation Siyahlola at the Mandeni Local Municipality on Friday.

Leading the operation, Premier Ntuli focused on the revitalization of factories in KwaSithebe that were damaged during the civil unrest of July 2021. As part of the initiative, the inspection team visited Superling Clothing (Pty) Ltd, where several undocumented foreign nationals were arrested.

Operation Siyahlola aims to assess the damage inflicted on local factories while addressing the issue of illegal and undocumented foreign workers within the region's industries. This effort aligns with the government's priorities of restoring order, enhancing security, and ensuring businesses operate in a safe and regulated environment.

Ntuli's leadership in the initiative underscores the province's dedication to economic recovery and law enforcement. The inspection highlighted the importance of legal compliance and labour standards in safeguarding the local economy from illegal activities while ensuring workers receive fair wages.

Accompanied by Ilembe District Mayor Thobani Shandu, Mandeni Local Municipality Mayor Thabani Mdlalose, and Ilembe District Police Commissioner Major General Anthony Gopaul, Premier Ntuli reviewed the damage to factories and ensured compliance with regulations.

During the operation, it was discovered that several businesses were operating without permits and in violation of legal standards. As a result, the South African Police Service made multiple arrests, and some factories were shut down.

Premier Ntuli emphasized the government's commitment to protecting local businesses and creating a secure environment for all residents. He also addressed the issue of undocumented immigrants, urging them to return to their home countries to obtain proper documentation and avoid exploitation by employers evading legal wages.

"Do not allow yourselves to be exploited by employers who hire you to evade paying fair wages," Ntuli advised, stressing the importance of legal compliance for both businesses and workers.
