Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton announced on Monday that the state government is on "high alert" to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants. He emphasized that monitoring in the border areas has been intensified.

During a meeting with civil societies in Chumoukedima, Patton noted that the police are conducting random checks at inter-state check gates and other vulnerable locations. The eight border district commissioners are in constant communication with their counterparts in Assam to facilitate information exchange.

Officials reported that over 200 illegal immigrants have been identified and more than 50 arrests have been made since January 2024. Civil society organizations were urged to collaborate with the government to ensure state security and integrity. The Naga Council Dimapur stressed the seriousness of the issue and called for the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit regulation.
