Mumbai police have registered a case against a woman for allegedly defrauding a retired India Post employee of Rs 15 lakh, an official announced on Monday.

After a thorough investigation, Vile Parle police on Saturday booked the accused, Bharti Bhushan, under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

The complainant, Shripat Narayan Revgade, a 63-year-old retired senior postmaster, was familiar with Bhushan, who had served as a postal agent. On his retirement in 2020, Revgade received Rs 8 lakh as gratuity, which he planned to invest in a senior citizen postal scheme. Bhushan, claiming to promote investment schemes for L&T Finance, convinced him to invest Rs 15 lakh. However, Bhushan allegedly used the money for personal expenses and failed to deliver the investment documents, revealing her fraud.
