A special court on Monday acquitted former BJP MLA Aakash Vijayvargiya, son of Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, in a case involving the alleged assault of a building inspector from the Indore Municipal Corporation in 2019.

Besides Aakash Vijayvargiya, nine other accused were also acquitted of various charges, including assault and criminal intimidation, by the special court set up for trials involving MPs and MLAs. Defence lawyer Udaypratap Singh Kushwah stated that the prosecution could not prove the charges, leading to the acquittal.

The court, presided over by Judge Dev Kumar, found that the authenticity of the alleged video of the incident could not be proven. Key witnesses, including the complainant officer Dhirendra Singh Bayas, did not support the prosecution's claims. An FIR had been registered against then-BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya and 10 others under multiple sections of the IPC for allegedly beating up the municipal inspector with a cricket bat on June 26, 2019. The incident occurred during a protest against the demolition of a house in Indore.
