The 20th edition of the India-USA joint military exercise YUDH ABHYAS 2024 commenced today at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. Scheduled from September 9th to 22nd, this annual exercise has been held since 2004, alternating between the two nations.

This year's exercise sees a significant expansion in both scale and complexity, with 600 personnel from each side participating. The Indian Army is represented by a battalion of the RAJPUT Regiment, alongside other units, while the U.S. Army contingent includes troops from the 1-24 Battalion of the Alaska-based 11th Airborne Division.

The exercise aims to enhance joint military capabilities in counter-terrorism operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, focusing specifically on operations in semi-desert environments. Tactical drills will cover joint responses to terrorist threats, joint planning, and combined field exercises simulating real-world missions.

YUDH ABHYAS 2024 provides both armies the opportunity to share best practices in conducting joint operations, building interoperability, and fostering camaraderie. It also strengthens defense cooperation, further enhancing the bilateral relationship between India and the USA.
