The Supreme Court has issued a directive to the West Bengal government to coordinate with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and ensure that adequate accommodation and security gadgets are provided for CISF personnel stationed at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata by Monday evening.
Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, leading a bench, mandated a senior officer from the state's home department and a top CISF officer to jointly ensure support for all three CISF companies with appropriate accommodations. The court acknowledged the Centre's claim that arrangements for some CISF personnel have already been made at RMA Quarters and other local facilities.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, highlighted the lack of accommodation for CISF personnel, including women, who are designated to secure the hospital. Despite assurances from Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal for the state, logistical issues persist. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs described the state's alleged non-cooperation as symptomatic of systemic malaise.
