The Supreme Court has rejected a plea filed by TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee, challenging an Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons in a case involving alleged illegal coal mining.

Justices Bela Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma delivered the ruling after reserving the verdict on August 13. The plea contended that the ED could not mandate their questioning in New Delhi and argued for proceedings to occur in Kolkata, their place of residence.

The ED has summoned the Banerjees in connection with an investigation into the suspected coal theft and illegal excavation activities in the leasehold area of Eastern Coalfields Ltd.
