Student activist Meeran Haider on Friday withdrew his bail plea from the Delhi High Court in connection with a case registered under the anti-terror law UAPA. The case pertains to the alleged broader conspiracy behind the communal riots that broke out in Delhi in February 2020.

During the hearing, Haider's counsel informed the bench comprising Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Girish Kathpalia that since the investigation by police had been completed, they would now approach the trial court for bail.

Haider, a youth wing leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and a student of Jamia Millia Islamia, along with others including Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, has been implicated under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They are alleged to be the masterminds behind the February 2020 riots in northeast Delhi, which resulted in 53 deaths and over 700 injuries.
