A devastating fire at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in central Kenya has tragically claimed the lives of 17 students, a police spokeswoman confirmed on Friday. Media reports indicated that the victims were burnt beyond recognition.
Rescuers are en route to the academy located in Nyeri, as stated by police spokeswoman Resila Onyango during a broadcast on Kenya's Hot 96 FM radio. Authorities are expected to release more details soon.
"We have lost 17 pupils in the fire incident while 14 are injured," Onyango told Reuters over the phone. Previous similar incidents include nine students losing their lives in a fire in Nairobi in September 2017.
