A local court has handed down a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a juvenile for raping two minors, aged five and six, in 2017. The court emphasized the severe trauma inflicted on the victims, which will likely haunt them for a lifetime.
Additional Sessions Judge Amit Sahrawat presided over the case involving the child in conflict with the law (CCL). The CCL was found guilty of rape and aggravated penetrative sexual assault. A Juvenile Justice Board previously determined that the offender, being over 16, should be tried as an adult.
Special Public Prosecutor Vineet Dahiya described the offence as heinous. The court considered mitigating factors, such as the juvenile being a product of a poor society, but ruled that the rape of each victim constituted a separate crime. The court sentenced the convict to 10 years for each offence and awarded Rs 10.5 lakh in compensation to each victim.
