A patient on ventilator support died at a government-run hospital's trauma care unit in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday morning.
His family attributes the fatality to a fire in the center's air-conditioning unit, but hospital officials insist the condition of the patient was already critical.
Authorities state the incident happened at Jayarogya Hospital, and despite the smoke, nine other patients were relocated safely. The fire was quickly controlled with extinguishers, they added.
