A court in Madhya Pradesh's Narmadapuram district has sentenced a 22-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.
Sohagpur Second Additional Sessions Judge Suresh Kumar Choubey convicted Kishan, also known as Chhinu Machhiya, under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), according to a press release from district prosecution officer Rajkumar Nema.
Quoting verses from the Ramcharit Manas, Judge Choubey remarked, 'Rape of every innocent girl is a rarest of rare incident and a case of rape and murder cannot be considered normal in any way.' The little girl had gone missing from her home on December 25, 2021. Her body was later discovered on the roof, where it was revealed that she had been subjected to unnatural sex before being strangulated. The girl's elder brother informed the police that Machhiya had arrived on the roof while they were playing and forced him to leave. The DNA profile of the accused matched samples collected from the scene.
