Poland has inked a $284 million deal with Spain's Indra Sistemas for the acquisition of 15 advanced radar control systems, according to a report from state news agency PAP on Wednesday.

The decision comes amidst heightened defense priorities along NATO's eastern front following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. In response, Poland has significantly ramped up its defense budget to around 4% of GDP for the year, aiming to strengthen its military forces. Deputy Minister of National Defense Pawel Bejda emphasized the necessity of these systems for military operations, particularly for the Polish Air Force and the safe operation of military airports.

Bejda highlighted that the radar systems will enhance airspace monitoring, facilitating smooth takeoffs and landings for aircraft, including the advanced F-35 jets. The contract stipulates the delivery of eight radar systems initially, with an option for seven additional systems, scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2031.
