The MCD zonal ward committee elections are shaping up to be a close contest, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) securing four zones and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning three out of nine zones by 12 PM on Wednesday.

Councillors across Delhi are voting to elect chairpersons and deputy chairpersons for nine of the 12 zonal-level ward committees. Each zone also selects a member for the standing committee, the highest decision-making body of the MCD.

Heavy security ensured the uninterrupted conduct of the elections, which for the first time took place after the unification of the MCD in 2022. Anticipating tensions, city police and paramilitary personnel were deployed at various polling centers.
