Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of 20 individuals who lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the state. Rescue and relief operations are still ongoing in Vijayawada, one of the areas hardest hit by the floods.

Naidu held a teleconference with officials, directing them to identify the families of the deceased to hand over the bodies or perform last rites on behalf of the government. He instructed officials to distribute essential items such as water, biscuits, fruits, and milk, and to set up mobile markets offering vegetables at economical prices.

Additionally, sanitation work is being carried out on a large scale, and power is being restored urgently. The CM also warned of potential viral fever outbreaks and ordered awareness campaigns and medical camps. Meanwhile, the government is using helicopters and drones to drop food packets. The floods have affected 6.44 lakh people, with 42,707 residing in relief camps.
