Washington's leading diplomat in Taipei, Raymond Greene, asserted on Wednesday that Taiwan is not China's sole objective for altering the regional status quo.

Speaking to reporters, Greene, the newly appointed director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and de facto U.S. ambassador, stressed that preserving a 'strategic balance' in the region would aid in fostering cross-strait relations.

Despite the lack of formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, the United States continues to be the island's most significant international supporter and key arms supplier.
