Court Convicts Man for Excessive Self-Defense in Stabbing Incident

A court has convicted a man for attempting culpable homicide after he stabbed a victim who had unjustifiably slapped him. The court found that while he was entitled to self-defense, he exceeded this right by inflicting more harm than necessary. The accused was acquitted of attempted murder but convicted of culpable homicide.

A Delhi court has convicted a man for attempting culpable homicide after an incident where he stabbed his aggressor. Though the initial attack was spurred by an unjustified slap, the court ruled that the accused exceeded his right of self-defense.

The court observed that the law permits self-defense but does not allow inflicting excessive harm. Judge Sunil Gupta explained that CCTV footage revealed the victim as the aggressor, rushing towards the accused and assaulting him with a belt.

The court concluded that while the accused had the right to defend himself, he overstepped by causing severe injuries, leading to a culpable homicide conviction. Sentencing will follow after mandatory documentation.
