Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi clarified before the Odisha Assembly that although the Supreme Court does not justify establishing a High Court bench in the state, the matter is still under governmental consideration for Western Odisha.
Majhi's recent statements have drawn criticism and protests from both opposition parties and some members of his ruling BJP. They urged clearer commitments and a definite timeline for the proposed bench.
Veteran BJP leader Jaynarayan Mishra questioned the CM's reliance on the SC verdict, highlighting the increasing population and caseload in the state to support the demand for an additional bench. Meanwhile, BJD MLA Kalikesh Singh Deo emphasized Bolangir's historical claim to a high court bench.
