Putin’s State Visit to Mongolia Sparks Controversy Amid ICC Warrant

Russian President Vladimir Putin received a red carpet welcome on Tuesday during his state visit to Mongolia. Ukraine condemned Mongolia's failure to arrest him under an International Criminal Court warrant, calling it a setback for justice. Upon arriving in Ulaanbaatar, Putin was greeted by Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

The Kremlin leader kissed a young girl who presented him flowers in Russian. The ICC warrant, issued last year, requires its 124 member states, including Mongolia, to detain Putin for trial in The Hague if he enters their territory. Mongolia's inaction drew sharp criticism from Ukraine, claiming it enables evasion of justice.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi stated that Mongolia shares responsibility for war crimes by not arresting Putin. The Kremlin dismissed the charges as politically motivated. Despite the warrant, relations with Mongolia are a top priority for Putin, focusing on a planned pipeline route aimed at boosting trade and economic cooperation.
