A 52-year-old Indian national has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for molesting a teenage girl from a known family, according to The Straits Times. The man, whose name is withheld to protect the girl's identity, cannot be caned due to his age.
The court heard that the molestation occurred in October 2022 in Sembawang, northern Singapore, when the 13-year-old girl trusted the man enough to go on a motorcycle ride with him. Deputy Public Prosecutor Suriya Prakash revealed that the man molested the girl near a playground.
According to local laws, offending individuals who molest children under 14 can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or receive a combination of these punishments. However, due to his age, the convicted man will not face caning.
