Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved a draft bill that grants individuals the right to decide whether their bodies should be buried or cremated.

The move seeks to address the distress caused among the 9% Muslim minority, who faced forced cremations during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.

The 'Burial and Cremation Rights Bill' was strongly advocated by Minister of Justice M U M Ali Sabry, who announced its approval on social media. This bill aims to uphold the personal and religious beliefs of individuals, ensuring dignity and justice.
