Brazilian Regulator Threatens Starlink's License Over Non-Compliance
Brazilian telecommunications regulator Anatel may sanction Starlink, controlled by Elon Musk, for not complying with local regulations. The Supreme Court had ordered the suspension of X messaging platform, which Starlink refused to follow. Justices indicated they might reverse the decision if compliance is achieved.
Brazil's telecommunications regulator Anatel is considering sanctions against Starlink, the satellite internet provider owned by Elon Musk, due to non-compliance with local norms, potentially revoking its operating license.
Anatel commissioner Artur Coimbra revealed that ongoing inspections are ensuring compliance among all telecom operators, focusing on the Supreme Court's order to shut down the X messaging platform. Starlink alone has defied this directive.
Starlink's refusal follows the Supreme Court's unanimous decision to uphold X's suspension, affecting over 20 million users, for not appointing a local legal representative as mandated. Musk and Justice Alexandre de Moraes have clashed over compliance issues, with Musk decrying the suspension as an attack on free speech.
