The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders have intensified their demand for justice after a government official was allegedly beaten by Governor Raghubar Das's son at Raj Bhavan in Puri during President Droupadi Murmu's visit in July.
On Monday, a delegation of BJD leaders met Odisha's Director General of Police, YB Khurania, urging immediate action. The meeting highlighted the party's growing frustration over what they claim is a lack of response and sympathy from the state's highest authorities. The incident, occurring in the midst of the revered Lord Jagannath's Ratha Yatra, has triggered widespread outrage.
In a memorandum, BJD leaders described the attack as an act of humiliation and violence, sparking further anger in the state. The inquiry into the matter seems to be stalled, leaving justice unmet, they argued. The BJD raised the issue in the state assembly, with Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik questioning whether the law differs for the relatives of high-ranking officials. The party also addressed other concerns like communal tensions in Balasore and the hooch tragedy in Ganjam during their meeting with the DGP.
