According to DIG (Eastern Range) Satyajit Naik, the suspect, Badal Panda, was apprehended on Monday, bringing the total arrests to four. The case has gained national attention after a viral video showed the women tied to a tree and beaten on allegations of attempting religious conversions in the Gobardhanpur village. This incident ignited widespread outrage and political debate.
The National Commission for Women has taken immediate notice, urging Odisha's DGP YB Khurania to ensure a thorough investigation and report in three days. The police responded promptly to rescue the women and are probing claims of attempted conversions. Notices have been issued amid scrutiny of conversion allegations and ensuing protests by villagers.
