In a significant development, Odisha's vigilance department has launched a stringent crackdown, conducting raids on the properties of 39 government officials over the past two months. The department has seized disproportionate assets worth Rs 49.35 crore, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Monday.
The raids, undertaken between June 12, marking the commencement of the BJP government in Odisha, and August 25, have spotlighted the magnitude of officials' ill-gotten wealth. From August 2023 to August 25, 2024, the vigilance department has seized assets worth approximately Rs 115.75 crore.
Among the notable cases, deputy director of mines in Talcher, Dharanidhar Nayak, was found with extensive assets, and Child Development Project Officer in Kutra, Jayashree Pattnaik, was arrested for accepting a bribe. The findings underline the government's enhanced vigilance measures.
