With torrential rains battering parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday called on Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all available resources for relief and rescue operations.
Gandhi emphasized that the Telangana Government is working tirelessly to manage the crisis and initiate rebuilding efforts.
'I strongly urge both the central government and the Andhra Pradesh government to provide comprehensive rehabilitation packages to those affected by this disaster,' he stated.
'My thoughts are with the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as they endure relentless rainfall and devastating floods,' the former Congress chief expressed, extending his deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones.
'I urge Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all available resources to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts,' Gandhi reiterated.
At least 16 people have lost their lives in various rain-related incidents in Telangana, with the state government estimating damages at Rs 5,000 crore and seeking immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre.
The relentless rains have caused inundation of low-lying areas, damage to agricultural crops, and disrupted rail and road links with Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the kin of those killed in the rain-related incidents and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the flooded areas and declare the floods a national calamity.
Nearly 4.5 lakh people have been affected by the unprecedented rainfall and floods in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in 15 fatalities and 31,238 people being evacuated to 166 relief camps.
