As of December 31, 2023, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) reported 82 cases of unresolved departmental actions against officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CVC highlighted that such long-standing issues tarnish the reputation of India's leading investigative agency.
According to the CVC's annual report, 54 pending cases involve Group A officers, while 28 pertain to Group B and C officials. Notably, 25 cases against Group A officers have been unresolved for over four years, with varying durations for others.
The report outlines that inquiries in 51 cases are ongoing, while three cases await final orders from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The prolonged delays are a significant concern for the CBI's operational integrity and public image.
