The militants launched a sudden assault from hilltop positions, firing indiscriminately towards the valley areas of Koutruk and Kadangband, resulting in the death of 31-year-old Ngangbam Surbala Devi. Among the injured are her eight-year-old daughter and police officer N. Robert, prompting widespread panic and leading many residents to flee to safer areas.

The deceased woman's body has been sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a post-mortem examination. The injured victims have been admitted to local hospitals for treatment. Security forces from both state and central units have been deployed to the area to stabilize the tense situation.
