Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud has underscored the critical role of the district judiciary, terming it the 'backbone of the judiciary' and a crucial pillar of the rule of law.

Speaking at the 'National Conference of the District Judiciary', inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CJI emphasized that referring to the district judiciary as subordinate must cease. Chandrachud pointed out the significant advancements in technology that courts have adopted, including digitization and video conferencing.

The CJI also highlighted the increasing number of women joining the judiciary, depicting a promising future. The conference saw discussions by key figures, including Modi, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Attorney General R Venkataramani. President Droupadi Murmu is slated to deliver the valedictory address.
