An Israeli air strike on an aid convoy transporting food and fuel to a Gaza hospital resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians on Thursday, according to the U.S.-based aid group Anera. Israel, however, contends that the victims were 'armed assailants,' a claim refuted by Anera.

The four Palestinians were part of an Anera aid convoy headed for the Emirati Red Crescent Hospital in Rafah, southern Gaza. Just after departing the Israel-controlled Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, members of the local community took control of the lead vehicle. Anera stated that Israeli authorities alleged the lead car was carrying weapons, but initial reports indicated no weapons were found.

Despite an agreement with Israeli authorities for the convoy to be accompanied by unarmed security guards, these four individuals had not been vetted. Anera noted that there was no warning before the airstrike occurred. Fortunately, no Anera staff were injured, and the convoy managed to deliver its aid.
