In an unprecedented move for Kerala, Sarada Muraleedharan will succeed her husband, V Venu, as the state's Chief Secretary. The handover marks the first time in Kerala's history that a spouse will take over the role from her partner.

During a farewell ceremony on Friday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan underscored the rarity of the situation. He noted that while it's common for civil service couples to transfer roles such as District Collector between each other, this is a first for the Chief Secretary position.

Venu will retire on August 31, and Muraleedharan, who currently serves as Additional Chief Secretary, will step into his shoes. Reflecting on this moment, Muraleedharan acknowledged the oddity of continuing her service alone for another eight months.
