The Supreme Court of India on Friday requested that National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah, engage in mediation to consider the possibility of a settlement in their ongoing divorce case.
Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah announced that the matter would be reviewed on November 4, pending a report from the Supreme Court Mediation Centre. The top court had previously sought a response from Payal Abdullah regarding her husband's petition seeking a divorce.
In December 2023, the Delhi High Court dismissed Omar Abdullah's plea for divorce, citing a lack of merit in his appeal. The ruling upheld a 2016 family court decision that refused to grant a divorce decree to the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
