In a humanitarian gesture, Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group has agreed to a temporary ceasefire in the Red Sea to facilitate rescue efforts for a damaged Greek-flagged crude oil tanker, Sounion.

According to Iran's mission to the United Nations in New York, multiple nations had appealed to the Houthis for a truce to enable the entry of tugboats and rescue ships into the affected area.

Responding to these appeals and due to humanitarian and environmental considerations, the Houthi movement, also known as Ansarullah, consented to the request.
