UPSC Adopts Aadhaar-Based Authentication for Candidates
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to use Aadhaar-based authentication for verifying candidates' identities on a voluntary basis during registration and examination stages. This move follows actions taken against IAS officer Puja Khedkar for fraudulent practices. The UPSC will also employ facial recognition and AI-based CCTV surveillance to curb cheating.

In an unprecedented move, the Centre on Wednesday allowed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to utilize Aadhaar-based authentication to verify candidates' identities on a voluntary basis at both registration and various examination stages.
This significant step follows the recent cancellation of probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar's provisional candidature. Khedkar was debarred from all future examinations after allegedly availing more attempts in the civil services examination than eligible and misusing reservations.
The personnel ministry has stated that the UPSC is now permitted to perform Aadhaar authentication via e-KYC facilities to ensure the integrity of the examination process. To prevent fraud, the commission will also implement facial recognition technology and AI-based CCTV surveillance.
