Heightened Security Measures Imposed in Kursk Region
The government of Russia's Kursk region will implement additional security measures at the Kurchatov district and Kursk nuclear plant starting August 29. Entry to Kurchatov will be restricted, following a surprise Ukrainian incursion into the region on August 6 with ongoing conflicts near the nuclear facility.

The government of Russia's Kursk region announced on Wednesday that it will introduce heightened security measures in the Kurchatov district and at the Kursk nuclear plant, effective from August 29.
According to Alexei Smirnov, the acting governor of the Kursk region, entry to the town of Kurchatov, where the nuclear plant is situated, will be temporarily restricted. The announcement was made via a post on Telegram.
The move comes in response to an unexpected incursion by Ukrainian forces into the Kursk region on August 6, which has led to ongoing combat within approximately 40 km (25 miles) of the nuclear facility.
