The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has initiated an inquiry following the escape of an inmate from the Waterval Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.

National Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale announced that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the escape of Dumisani Mthethwa, who escaped on Monday but has since been recaptured.

Escape and Recapture: Dumisani Mthethwa escaped from the Waterval Correctional Centre on Monday. The department’s officials acted swiftly, and Mthethwa has been rearrested through their dedicated efforts.

Legal Proceedings: Mthethwa is scheduled to appear in court on charges related to his escape. His case will also prompt a review of his security classification.

Facility Transfer: To ensure heightened security, Mthethwa will be transferred to a different correctional facility.
