Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday expressed his concern to the Central Government over the recent arrest of eight more fishermen from the state by the Sri Lankan Navy. This incident marks the second such occurrence within a week after 11 Indian fishermen were apprehended on August 23 for allegedly violating the maritime boundary.
The fishermen, who set sail from Rameswaram, were arrested, and their boat seized, Stalin revealed in a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Currently, a total of 116 fishermen and 184 boats from India are in Sri Lankan custody.
Stalin highlighted the distressing impact these repeated incidents have on the fishermen's families and their livelihoods. He urged Jaishankar to expedite diplomatic efforts to secure the release of all detained Indian fishermen and boats.
