On August 25, 2024, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, on the concluding day of his tour to the United States. The museum, which chronicles the history of the civil rights movement in the U.S. from the 17th century to the present, is notably built around the site where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The museum also features a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, honoring his philosophy of non-violent resistance that inspired movements across the world.

During his visit, Shri Rajnath Singh interacted with members of the Indian community from Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, and surrounding areas. He praised their remarkable achievements and contributions to society, science, and the economy, referring to them as a "living bridge" that strengthens the bond and goodwill between India and the United States.

Shri Rajnath Singh also recognized the efforts of the Indian community in establishing an exhibit dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi at the museum and placing two honorary "Gandhi Way" street signs near the museum in celebration of Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary in 2019.

In his final remarks during the event, Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted India's impressive growth over the past decade and expressed confidence in the nation's bright and promising future.
