Starting September 1, taxpayers who fail to provide valid bank account details will be prohibited from filing outward supply returns in GSTR-1, as mandated by GST Rule 10A, according to an advisory from the GST Network (GSTN).
GST Rule 10A requires taxpayers to furnish bank account details within 30 days of registration or before filing GSTR-1 returns, whichever is earlier. The enforcement of this rule aims to combat fake and fraudulent registrations in the GST system.
The GST Council approved the amendment to Rule 10A in their meeting last July. Taxpayers are urged to update their bank account information on the GST portal to avoid being barred from filing GSTR-1 or IFF from the August 2024 tax period onward, the GSTN advisory emphasized.
