In a significant step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed and prosperous Ladakh, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the creation of five new districts in the union territory. The announcement was made by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah on the 'X' platform.

The new districts—Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang—are expected to enhance governance and ensure that government services reach even the most remote areas of Ladakh. With the addition of these districts, Ladakh will now have a total of seven districts, including the existing Leh and Kargil.

Ladakh, known for its vast and challenging terrain, has historically faced difficulties in delivering government services to its sparse and dispersed population. The creation of these new districts is seen as a crucial measure to address these challenges, ensuring that public welfare schemes from both the Central Government and the Ladakh Administration can be more effectively implemented at the grassroots level.

The MHA has given "in-principle approval" for the formation of these districts and has tasked the Ladakh administration with setting up a committee. This committee will assess various aspects related to the formation of the new districts, including determining headquarters, boundaries, administrative structures, and the creation of necessary posts. The committee is expected to submit its report within three months, after which the Ladakh administration will send a final proposal to the MHA for further action.

This historic decision underscores the Narendra Modi government's commitment to the all-round development of Ladakh, creating new opportunities and improving the quality of life for its residents.
