Protests Erupt in Assam Over Alleged Gang Rape of Teen Girl
Protests broke out across Assam following the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Nagaon district. Protests broke out in various parts of Assam on Sunday, following the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Nagaon district. Demonstrators are calling for stringent and exemplary punishment for the alleged culprits.
According to police reports, the girl was allegedly raped by three individuals who surrounded her on a motorcycle while she was returning home from tuition in Dhing. Shops and businesses in Dhing reopened after two days of closure in protest against the heinous crime.
A march in the area demanded the arrest of the remaining suspects. The prime accused, arrested on Friday, allegedly escaped custody and died after jumping into a pond. Efforts to apprehend the other two suspects are ongoing. Protests also occurred in Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district and Sivasagar, with demonstrators demanding justice.
