In light of widespread public outrage over atrocities against women and children, there's a burgeoning demand for expedited justice. This call for action has been met head-on by Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), which have resolved over 2.53 lakh cases since the scheme's inception in 2019.

Several high-profile leaders, such as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, have amplified calls for faster judicial processes. In response, government officials highlighted the effectiveness of FTSCs, which have quickly convicted perpetrators, some trials concluding in as little as four days.

The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act of 2018 paved the way for the establishment of 1,023 FTSCs, including 389 specifically for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases, across 31 states and Union Territories. Officials noted that these courts have been instrumental in delivering justice, citing numerous instances of swift and decisive verdicts.
