An Italian prosecutor has initiated a manslaughter investigation following the tragic sinking of a luxury yacht off Sicily, leading to the deaths of British tech magnate Mike Lynch and six others.

Ambrogio Cartosio, head of the public prosecutor's office of Termini Imerese, announced the investigation during a news conference. Among the deceased was Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, who perished when the family's 56-meter-long boat, the Bayesian, capsized amidst a fierce pre-dawn storm near Palermo. Lynch's wife and the yacht's captain were among the 15 survivors.

Prosecutor Raffaele Cammarano confirmed that Captain James Cutfield had been very cooperative during questioning. Salvaging the yacht, currently at a depth of 50 meters, may offer crucial clues. Experts are baffled as the yacht, built by Perini, should have withstood the storm. Giovanni Costantino of The Italian Sea Group ruled out design flaws, attributing the accident to crew errors.
