A local court has handed down a 10-year jail sentence to Shrestha Saini, a pharmacy student, for attempting to murder the chairman of his college, Abhishek Agarwal.

Sessions Court judge Vinod Kumar Dubey also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Saini, aged 24, according to district government counsel Reetram Rajput.

As per Rajput, the incident took place in April 2023 when Saini, who was suspended for indiscipline, entered Agarwal's office and shot at him with a country-made pistol. A complaint filed by Agarwal's wife led to Saini's arrest and subsequent conviction.
